This post falls squarely in the “life” category of this blog’s mission statement of [ vine..wine..life ]. I realize that it’s a rathy pithy one, but really it’s quite simple. For me, [ vine..wine..life ] is all about a life in balance. A little vine (anything wine related) a little wine (and anything food related) and life (in this case, staying healthy and fit). Great company in which to enjoy these activities, whether it be friends and/or family, is also a necessary ingredient.
So this weekend I ran my first half marathon up in the Marin Headlands just north of San Francisco. The North Face Endurance Challenge is a series of trail runs of varying distances (5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, 50K) that take place across the country. While I really enjoy trail running, I had never run any course longer than 8 miles. This years 13.1 mile race boasted a 2200+ foot elevation climb (3 hills of approx. 700 feet), great views and an unbelievable runner’s high upon finishing!
After scarfing down the most delicious BBQ chicken sandwich I’ve ever had, (remember I had been running for over 2 hours). I came home to an empty refrigerator. However I did discover a cold bottle of one of my favorite anytime bubblies.
Jean-Louis Denois, a winemaking super talent from the Languedoc region of France produces this 50% chardonnay, 50% pinot noir methode champenoise Brut that spends 18 months on the lees before disgorging. A beautiful bead, gorgeous pinot nuances matched by a hint of racier chardonnay..beautifully balanced, and for less than half the price of a bottle of champagne. Post race, a glass of this bubbly never tasted so good!
Cheers to BBQ chicken sandwiches, Jean-Louis Denois and running farther into 2011 !!
